Greetings from the Teacher

Hi! My name is Hazel. I am a Canadian citizen. Right now, I am living in Toronto, Canada with my husband, Paul, and our dog, Hana. About nine years ago, my husband and I went to Japan and we lived and worked there for 8 years.

I am a qualified and experienced English instructor; I have a Masteryq degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MSc TESOL) and have taught in Hong Kong and in Japanese universities for years. (Some courses which I have taught: Speaking (Eikaiwa), Writing, Business English, TOEFL, Intensive English)

I like traveling and have been to many countries. I enjoy meeting and talking to different people. Besides English, I can also speak Japanese, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Why Did I Start Second Nature?

After returning to Toronto from Japan in July 2003, I got an email from my former student in Japan. The email says, "I want to continue to learn English from you, why don't you start an online Internet Eikaiwa program?" What a good idea! As a result, I started Second Nature Internet Eikaiwa in October 2003.

My "Online Experience"

Since I started teaching online, I have met quite a few students (mostly living in Japan). I really enjoy talking to them and they have taught me a lot about their culture. Most of my students are "salaried men" (and women), professionals, university and grad school students, etc. Many of them have busy work schedules and family commitment, but they are really motivated and eager to learn English. It makes teaching so much fun and enjoyable!

So far, my online experience has been fun, enriching, and fulfilling.
